...where dinosaurs parade in platform shoes!

Voyage into the Vines.jpg

Voyage into the Vines

The first work completed in this series, ‘Voyage into the Vines’ displays a decorative painting style. The dinosaur with platform shoes is the central focus of the work and is encapsulated by vine foilage. The limited colour pallette is complemented by textures of foilage and dinosaur skin. The highly ornate frame compliments this work and envokes a sense of beauty and joy. 29cm x 39cm. Acrylic on canvas.

Flora and Fauna

This work was mostly inspired by vintage textiles and wallpaper that features floral patterns. The idea that landscapes can form a man made background, provided the perfect setting of floating flowers for this stylish dinosaur. The ornate frame was found on the roadside by the artist and catapulted the entire ‘Prehistoric Platforms’ series and the use of vintage frames. 50cm x 60cm. Acrylic on canvas.

Sunset Stroll.jpg

Sunset Stroll

The pink and red hues create an energetic colour palette for this active dinosaur in platform shoes. The naïve landscape painting style creates a detailed foreground contrasting against the softer sky. 39cm x 49cm. Acrylic on canvas.

Deserted.jpg

Deserted

Warm pinks and orange contrast against various shades of green succulents to bring life to this desert scene. The dinosaur’s white platform boots are a striking feature and represents the ‘western frontier’. 34cm x 44cm. Acrylic on canvas.

Terra Australis.jpg

Terra Australis

The earthy tones used in this work represent the Australian rural landscape with desert features. The dinosaur is based on an Australian dinosaur with added decorative patterning on the skin. The banksia plant is featured in the foreground and is a highlight of this work. This is the largest work in the series. 55cm x 77cm. Acrylic on canvas

Into the tropics.jpg

Into the Tropics

The rich array of colours and patterns found in tropical foilage inspired this work and its design. The dinosaur itself has less tonal quality to contrast against the detailed background. 33cm x 43cm. Acrylic on canvas.

Strolling through the Streams

A friend of the artist provided the idea of an aquatic landscape. This was a welcome change of scenery and continues the artist’s preferred colour palette of pinks and orange with black sections for the background. This dinosaur wears platform gumboots which suits the aquatic terrain. 50.5cm x 40.5cm. Acrylic on canvas.

The Stegosaurus Blues

The colour scheme and bold patterns were inspired by the desire to create a dinosaur in platform shoes that would appeal to the male audience, as most of the dinosaurs in the series have female elements and colour schemes. This is also the first stegosaurus to be decked with platforms and the stegosaurus is the artist’s favourite dinosaur. 46 x 56cm. Acrylic on canvas.
